The Intel Core i5 2nd Generation processor (such as the i5-2400 / i5-2500 / i5-2500K family) is a quad-core CPU from Intel’s Sandy Bridge series, launched around 2011. These CPUs feature 4 physical cores and 4 processing threads, a 6 MB Intel Smart Cache, and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000/2500 for basic graphics tasks. They utilize the LGA1155 socket and support DDR3 memory (typically up to 1333 MHz memory modules), making them compatible with older desktop platforms using H61, H67, P67, or Z68 series motherboards.

With Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, clock speeds can increase dynamically under load — for example, the popular i5-2400 runs at a base of ~3.1 GHz with turbo up to ~3.4 GHz, delivering responsive performance for everyday workloads such as web browsing, document editing, multimedia, light photo/video editing, and casual gaming. Because they’re older CPUs, these processors are commonly found in used or refurbished condition at very budget-friendly prices in India.

Their performance today is still adequate for legacy systems, basic office machines, and home PCs where high-end performance isn’t required. However, for contemporary workloads, modern CPUs (newer Core i5 generations or equivalent AMD CPUs) offer much higher efficiency and speed.
